Music Therapy

We would like people with mental health problems to be creative, inspired and to have fun through making music.

Playing an instrument, singing or just listening to good music can lift people’s spirits and has been known to improve mental wellbeing.

Our band Butterfly Effect enjoy playing each week to have fun making music. Band members can access a therapeutic music room within Darlington Mind, Including the presence of a full range of sound equipment from; an electronic drum kit, to sound mixer and recording software. The social environment in which the group performs is very supportive, and this has helped to create an inclusive atmosphere which is free from the fear of making mistakes.

The Music Group also continue to access a rehearsal studio at the Forum Music Centre; doing this offers users to play with a full drum kit and access professional PA equipment. Within the Forum the band can also enjoy the chance to play at louder level and further build musical skills and increase confidence/self-esteem.

Butterfly Effect have also performed live concerts, providing entertainment at social events, Christmas gatherings and BBQ’s. The achievement of these live performances really emphasises how much music can have a positive impact on people’s lives.
