Time to Talk Day

Talking can make all the difference

Time to Talk Day is about creating space for honest conversations about mental health.

You don’t need the right words. You don’t need to have everything figured out. Talking about how you’re feeling, whether that’s stress, worry, low mood, or just feeling out of sorts, can help lighten the load.

Why talking matters

When we keep things to ourselves, they often feel bigger and harder to manage. Talking can help you feel less alone, make sense of what’s going on and remind you that support is available. It doesn’t mean you have to fix everything at once. Sometimes being heard is enough for now.

Stigma and silence

Stigma still stops many people from opening up. It can create fear of judgement or make people feel like they should just 'get on with it.'

Mental health is part of everyday life. We all experience ups and downs, and we all need support at different times. Talking openly and listening with care helps challenge stigma and makes it easier for others to speak up too.

If you want to understand more about stigma and how to tackle it, our Stigma page has some guidance and information - Be Stigma Free

Starting a conversation

A conversation doesn’t have to be perfect or planned. It might be as simple as checking in, noticing someone seems different or letting them know you’re there to listen. If you’re the one opening up, take it at your own pace. Say what feels right. There’s no pressure to explain everything.

Time to talk to us

Time to Talk Day is also about making sure voices are heard when it comes to mental health support locally so we want to hear from you in our mental health survey.

With a national crisis in preventing poor mental health and Darlington's unusually high admission rates to hospital we want to understand from you what the mental health support needs are in your area and in your community. What’s working, what isn’t, and what could be better?

From support groups, to awareness training; opportunities for therapeutic or mindful activity or creativity or to connect with others, whatever you have in mind your experiences and views matter. Whether you, a friend or a loved one have had support with mental health recently, in the past, or not at all, its time to talk to us.
